Outrigger Canoe Paddling & Fishpond Restoration
Join us as you paddle the traditional wa'a (outrigger canoe) through the pristine waters of Maui.
This immersive experience not only teaches you about the significance of outrigger canoes in Hawaiian history but also connects you with the ocean's rhythms.
Under the guidance of knowledgeable Hawaiian cultural practitioners, you will learn the ancient techniques of canoe paddling while embracing the spirit of aloha. As part of this enriching journey, you will participate in the restoration of a loko i'a (Hawaiian fishpond). Engage in lifting pōhaku (rocks) and learn about the importance of sustainable practices in preserving Hawaii's natural resources. This hands-on activity not only contributes to the environment but also deepens your understanding of traditional Hawaiian aquaculture.
Throughout the experience, you will be surrounded by the rich narratives of Hawaiian mythology and history. Our cultural practitioners will share stories and chants that have been passed down through generations, enhancing your appreciation for the land and its heritage.
